Legacy: A provision in a will which leaves certain personal property to a named individual, i.e., a legatee. Letters of administration: Documents issued by a probate court giving an administrator the authority to administer an estate. Letters testamentary: Documents issued by a probate court giving an executor the authority to administer an estate. Levy: The seizure and sale of property by the court to satisfy a garnishment or judgment. Lien: A claim against personal or real property. Life estate: A lifetime interest in property, terminating upon death. Life tenant: A person who holds a lifetime interest in property. Lis pendens: A Latin phrase meaning "pending suit." A notice advising those interested to examine the pending legal action. |
