- This
is a state wide court which is divided into four departments and twelve
districts. Supreme Court has the most extensive authority to determine
all categories of cases, including criminal and civil matters. The
one exception is claims - or lawsuits - that are filed against the
State of New York, which must be brought before a court called the
Court of Claims.
- Jury
trials are commonly conducted in the Supreme Court.
